DESSINART is dedicated to the collection, conservation, research, and management of early art, with a particular focus on works on paper dating from the early fifteenth century to the late twentieth century, gradually establishing a collection system grounded in historical continuity and scholarly value. At the same time, we remain committed to identifying great lost masterpieces that have been obscured, dispersed, or yet to be fully recognized in the course of history.
Our work extends beyond the act of collecting alone. Through systematic research, careful investigation, and responsible conservation, we seek to deepen the understanding of each work in relation to its material nature, historical context, and trajectory of transmission. For DESSINART, regardless of past ownership or any disputes that may have accompanied a work through history, the historical path of an important work is itself an integral part of scholarly inquiry, deserving sustained examination, rigorous documentation, and preservation.
In this sense, the DESSINART collection is not merely an accumulation of objects, but rather a research-oriented scholarly platform. We hope that each work may be thoroughly examined, recontextualized within its historical, cultural, and visual frameworks, and preserved over time through disciplined documentation, research, and conservation.
From the very beginning, DESSINART has regarded the construction and refinement of its collection databases as one of its foundational tasks. Through years of practice, accumulation, and continuous revision, we have gradually developed a more complete database system, enabling collection-related information to be recorded, organized, and presented with greater consistency, accuracy, and scholarly value.
